Trauma & EMDR Therapy | Danville, PA & online throughout pa

You are not broken. You don’t need fixed. You were hurt and need to heal.

Sometimes trauma takes the form of a very specific event in our lives. Other times, however, trauma occurs without us realizing it at the time: a series of experiences that, over time, impact our sense of safety, joy, or purpose.

At the end of the day, trauma is trauma. It may be tempting to compare our experiences to others’—“well it’s not as bad as…” But this only ends up invalidating our emotions (and limiting our ability to heal), simply because of the idea that there’s a threshold our experience has to meet in order to “count.” There is no level system for trauma, no worse or better than.

If you’ve experienced something that is influencing your ability to maintain healthy relationships, causing you to avoid certain situations, or otherwise keeping you from living a confident, secure, and purposeful life, then trauma & EMDR therapy is here to help.

How Trauma & EMDR Therapy Works

Deciding to go to therapy is a big decision—one that I honor and do not take lightly. This is a place where you can feel safe sharing things you may have never said out loud before, and to receive support that meets you right where you are.

In addition to simply allowing you a place to express yourself (because that, alone, is incredibly healing), we’ll also help you gain a new perspective on your past. After experiencing trauma, many of us feel like there’s something wrong with us. In therapy, we can shine a light on what’s brought us to this place, revealing that the way we feel and behave today has simply been in response to what we went through.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a proven psychotherapy method that helps you address and reprocess difficult memories as well as address the underlying core beliefs we hold about ourselves. With EMDR, you’re in control of the healing process—it activates your brain’s natural healing process to change the way it processes information. This means you don’t just feel better—you are better.

We’ll bring your physical wellness—sleep, nutrition, hydration, and movement—into therapy too, putting you back in the driver’s seat of every aspect of your health.

You’re already stronger than you think you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Therapy is only successful if you are doing it with someone you truly trust and feel comfortable with. That’s why I offer a free consultation—to help you decide if I can be that for you. If not, I’m always happy to refer you to another therapist that might be a better fit!

My approach to therapy is integrative, bringing together your physical health, your mental health, and skills such as breathing and mindfulness exercises that you can put into practice in your day-to-day life. We may also incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a specific therapy method used to treat and heal traumatic memories.

If we meet in person, we also get the benefit of the great outdoors and all its grounding and healing properties too. (Oh, and my chickens—they’re free entertainment.)

  • This is 100% dependent on you and your goals for therapy. I work with some clients for a few months, and others for much longer. We will regularly check in on our progress toward your goals and evaluate the level of support you’d like moving forward.

Due to the nature and depth of EMDR work, if we decide together that it will be a good tool to help you reach your goals, we are likely to work together for at least 6-12 sessions, depending on what you wish to work on.

  • There is no bar your experience must meet in order to “qualify” as trauma. It can be anything you have experienced in your past that is impacting your present.

While it can be helpful for some people to assign a name to what they’re experiencing, some just feel “off” and want help getting back “on.” At the end of the day, that’s what I’m here to help you do, regardless of what we call it.

  • At Riverside Therapies, we want to meet you where you are at, wherever that is. Maybe 90 minutes every other week is more your vibe or 3 hours once a month is easier to coordinate. Schedule your free consultation and we'll design your session structure together.
